Czech Republic

Take a trip through time

Where to start with the Czech Republic? This fantastic country is located in central Europe, with Germany to the north and west, Poland to the north and east, with Austria and Slovakia to the south.

The capital city of Prague is famed for its old castle, Charles Bridge and its astronomical clock. Also, the beers made here are outstanding and are recognised as some of the best worldwide, such as the first ever Pilsner - Pilsner Urquell.

So, What's Special?

We seem to be repeating ourselves for a lot for Central and Eastern Europe but again its the history and architecture. When you dive down the little alleyways here, you often find they open up into old town squares, all of which have stories to tell.

The food and drink culture in the Czech  Republic is brilliant too. Whilst it is said more beer is drank here per person than any other country, we don't recall seeing any really drunk locals piling out into the streets and causing mayhem. The local foods are incredible and you must give it all a try.

Our Experience

Greg spent 4 days in the Prague, exploring the history and architecture as well as some of the local watering holes. Going during the Easter Markets made for a stunning time in the Old Town Square, surrounded by the old buildings including the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn and the Clock Tower. We embraced the culture and saw everything we could; from the underground tunnels to the old castle and even the Ice Bar.

Our Advice

With costs steadily rising in the capital the best advice is to go sooner rather than later. If you plan to stay in Prague then we suggest you need a good 4 days. This will give you a good amount of time to enjoy the city and its surrounding areas, without having to rush or miss anything.

Make sure whilst walking around the country that you remember to look up as the rooftops have some of the best architecture. Not only that, you maybe able to climb the occasional tower meaning you get stunning views across the cities.

Also, don't just look up, check below ground level as there are some hidden tunnels and pathways that weave their way under Prague.

Whilst the country is safe, in the larger cities make sure you keep an eye on your belongings, especially after you have sampled a few of the local beers. If and when you decide to same a few of the local delights make sure you try local as the country is famous for its beers. This counts with the food too, don't just eat at the expensive restaurants on the main squares, delve a little deeper and find the real local places. The food is better, served in bigger portions and is much tastier.

To Summarise...

Whilst we have only seen the capital, it has left us wanting to go back for more. The city was stunning and the Czech people were very welcoming and friendly towards us. The cost is steadily rising but you will find your money will go a long way if you leave the capital. It's a beautiful country and somewhere you really should check out.
