LIVING ABROAD IS SOMETHING EVERYONE SHOULD DO

My Home In Your Sights
No matter where I'm living, England will always be my home.
It's where I grew up, where my friends and family are, and nothing will change my love for England.
However, England and I have a love-hate relationship. We have that underlying bond, that connection and passion, but from time to time, we need our own space.
Within England, bar the glorious summer months spent in the seaside harbour town of Padstow, Bristol is the only city I have lived in.
Despite its dark history, Bristol has been voted the best city to live in the UK more times than I care to remember. The city is a hub of multicultural arts, foods, people and languages.
So why change?
Well, I think it's essential to travel, meet new cultures, and immerse yourself in new experiences.
Therefore, now and again, I gently put away my woolly jumpers, raincoats, hats and scarves and head for warmer climes.
Other Countries I've Lived
Melbourne, Australia
I spent 2014 living in Australia, and whilst I travelled the circumference, spending long periods in several of its incredible cities, I considered Melbourne home.
It was my Aussie base and the city I spent most of my time. Partly because that was where my cousin's family lived, and after staying with them, nowhere else on this vast continent could ever be called home.
They made my time in Melbourne sensationally memorable, and I love them for it.
We had a cracking house in Werribee, which was full of laughter.
I learnt the Australian way of life, celebrating Australia Day, Christmas Day and the Ashes with the family and friends. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better experience, and I look forward to the next reunion.
Since then, only one city has come close to knocking Melbourne off the top spot for my favourite cities in the world, Rome, in Italy.
Bali, Indonesia
More recently, in 2018, I spent just over seven months living and working in Bali, Indonesia, as a tour guide for Tru Travels. Living with my colleagues in Canggu was mental. Every night was party night, and no one slept more than four to five hours.
It had to be the craziest time of my life. The stories and the memories from these seven months are so outrageously ridiculous, and the experiences so epic, you would not believe them unless you were there.
The Balinese people are among the kindest and friendliest I have ever met, and many of them have become part of my travel family.
However, sadly, I had to leave as life back in the UK got in the way. This is not goodbye, but see you later.
Why move from such a perfect life? Well, I have a saying "If you know the area so well that the locals stop to chat like a lifelong friend, or people ask you for directions to the nearest post box, and you know the answer, you’ve been there too long.
Besides, there is always more to see. Likewise, as sad as moving on is, I don't think of it as a door closing, but a new one opening.
Countries I've Visited
Currently, I have visited six continents, with loose plans for the seventh.
However, until I can tick off that big white mass of ice and snow in the south, the map will remain, as is, Antarcticaless. That is a word, right?
I've had Far-Out adventures in the Middle East, the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and, of course, Oceania.
To discover my thoughts and musings on the countries I've visited, click around the interactive map (countries marked in blue). Once in the country guides, you can drill down further to the cities, towns and areas within that country.
Whilst I see those places and smile, I see more locations yet to uncover.
It’s a big world. The only way to see it is by getting off my ass and getting out there.
You may have to zoom in to see the smaller countries, such as Andorra, Monaco, Singapore, and Vatican City.
I honestly didn't think anyone would care about these pages. So, if you're reading this, thank you so much.
