Home of Houdini, but don't you disappear

Hungary is located in central Europe surrounded by 7 other European counties. Its capital city Budapest can be found to the north of the country but relatively centrally when talking east to west.

This stunning country is steeped in history and culture back through to Roman times. The country is littered with spas and baths meaning wherever you go you are sure to be in for a relaxing treat. This is due to vast networks of geothermal caves that run under the country.

So, What's Special?

This is a very special country, with stunning countryside and beautiful cityscapes. The country has mixed the old and new very cleverly, making for some of the best cities in Europe. Never is this more obvious than in the 'Sparties', where the old Roman baths and spas get turned into a nightclub during certain nights of the month.

Budapest is a delight to walk around at any point of the day or night, although the city as we know it has only been around and known as Budapest since 1873.

Like a lot of other countries in Europe, the food is out of this world. The national dish known as 'goulash' is a must try, and you will regret it if you don't.

Our Experience

Greg spent 5 days in the capital city of Budapest exploring everything the city had to offer. We toured Buda Castle, managed to get to a Sparty, visited Hero's Square and took the booze bike around the city. We tried to see and do everything, and even managed a hot chocolate and cake at the world's voted most beautiful cafe.

Our Advice

The first bit of advice I can give you is do not cheers by clanging your glasses together. This is considered rude in Hungary and you may even be asked to leave the bar.

If you are lucky enough to be around during a Sparty then take the opportunity to get involved. It will be one of your best nights out in the country.

Your money will go a long way in Hungary and you will find the public transport and taxis are very well priced. The food and drink in the country whilst being delicious is also very well-priced, especially out of the capital city.

To Summarise...

It is difficult to summarise a country from one trip to its capital city but what we have seen so far is beauty, fun and intrigue and we loved every second of our time here.

It is cheap to get about around using the transport networks as is the food and drink which really is something you should try. The people are all very friendly and are a credit to their nation.

If history is your thing this country has that in abundance, and if relaxing and not doing a lot, maybe a river cruise or a spa day, sounds perfect: this is the country for you.
